International Open Call: Artist Residency, Vienna

TWO SIX-WEEK RESIDENCIES IN VIENNA

In cooperation with the Association of Visual Artists Vienna Secession, Hotel Beethoven in Vienna underwrites two artist residencies. The joint initiative is intended to promote artists who would like to undertake research or work on their art during a six-week stay in Vienna in early 2021.
The artist residencies are open to artists from Austria and abroad and not restricted to a particular genre. Artists working in the media of painting, sculpture, or photography, in performance art or new media are encouraged to apply.

The residency program includes:
1. One room and half board at Hotel Beethoven, Papagenogasse 6, 1060 Wien, Austria. www.hotelbeethoven.at
2. One workspace provided in cooperation with the Vienna Economic Chamber.
3. One public conversation about the artist’s work with a curator from the Secession.

DATES

Application opens: October 8, 2020
Deadline for applications: October 31, 2020
Notification of winning artists: mid-November 2020
Artist residencies: January 4–February 14, 2021 and February 15–March 28, 2021
Artist conversations: February and March 2021 (events to be organized in accordance with applicable Covid-19 regulations)

The jury is composed of Herwig Kempinger, president of the Secession (chairman), two other members of the artist association Secession, and Barbara Ludwig, patron of the arts and owner of Hotel Beethoven.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications must be submitted by email to artistresidency@secession.at between October 8 and October 31, 2020. All applicants must fully comply with all application requirements. Applications must be submitted in German or English.

Applications must include:
Biographical note, exhibition history (overview), letter of motivation detailing current creative interests and projects (max. 1 page), contact information, and three digital photographs of works that are representative of the overall oeuvre with exact specifications of titles, years of creation, media and techniques, and dimensions in a single pdf document.
Total size: one email with one attached pdf document with a maximum size of 5 MB.
