Festival for serial travel and reportage photography

CALL FOR ENTRIES IN THE CATEGORIES

  Amateurs can also compete in the category of professional photographers if they want to face the competition with the professionals.

The 17th Schömberger Fotoherbst will take place from 8 October to 5 November 2023.

The biennial photo competition of the municipality of Schömberg with the categories professionals and amateurs offers travel and reportage photographers a forum to present their work.

Competition conditions in detail

Theme
Travel and reportage photography. The photographs must have a thematic context, be recognisable as a series and show in their presentation which artistically attractive claim they pursue.

Number of pictures
A minimum of 8 and a maximum of 10 pictures per series in colour or black and white. Only one series per participant is permitted.

Image formats
For presentation reasons, all pictures must not be smaller than 18 x 24 cm or larger than 30 x 40 cm. Pictures printed on A3 must be cropped for technical reasons. Participants are free to choose the quality of paper they use. The pictures may neither be mounted nor have passe-partouts.

Technique
Analogue or digital, which will be indicated in the entry form.

Submission
Entries to the photo competition must be made using the form on the homepage www.schoemberger-fotoherbst.de. In addition to the photo prints, the works must be submitted electronically by wetransfer to fotoherbst@schoemberg.de with individual picture titles or numbers. This is particularly useful for cataloguing purposes.

Labelling / short text
The following information must be written on the top right-hand side of the back of each print: Name, address, title of the series as well as image title and number. (No texts in the images themselves). At the same time, a short text describing the series and its connection with the given theme from the photographer’s point of view must be submitted (max. DIN A5/font size 12, by e-mail). The short text will be presented in the exhibition and the catalogue.

Judging
Up to 25 photo series per category will be selected for the exhibition by the preliminary jury. They will be evaluated and awarded prizes by the main jury during the festival.

Award ceremony
The award ceremony for the winning series of pictures will take place on Sunday, 5 November 2023 at 11 a.m. on the Finissage in the Schömberg Kurhaus.

Prizes for the Schömberger Fotoherbst
Jury prize in the category professional photographers: € 3,000
Audience prize in the category professional photographers: € 1,000

Jury prize in the category amateur photographers: € 1,200 
Audience prize in the category amateur photographers: € 500

The prize money includes the purchase of the respective winning series by the municipality. Winners of the 2021 Audience Award will be given a break for the Audience Award.

The jury reserves the right to award a special prize for outstanding work by participants under the age of 21.

Presentation
The selected photo series, including a short text by the photographers, will be presented at the 17th Schömberg Fotoherbst Festival will be publicly exhibited in the Town Hall, the Kurhaus, the Museum Haus Bühler and in the window galleries of the Schömberg retail trade. The vernissage will take place on Sunday, 8 October 2023 at 11 am in the foyer of the new Schömberg town hall.

Catalogue
A catalogue will be published for the Schömberg Fotoherbst, in which the exhibited picture series and the details (name, location) of their photographers will be published. Each participant selected for the presentation will receive two catalogues.

Image rights
The copyright of the images remains with the photographers. However, participation in the competition authorises the use of all submitted images free of charge and the naming of the photographers for publications in connection with the Schömberger Fotoherbst, social media channels and the exhibition catalogue.

Cost contribution
The participation fee is 25 € and will be invoiced after electronic registration via the homepage. Please do not pay in cash.

Return
After the Schömberger Fotoherbst, the photo series will be returned to the participants. The return postage will be paid by the municipality.
