There is a consensus in relevant literature that archives are shaped just as much by what they do not tell\u2014by gaps, omissions, and repressed aspects\u2014as by the knowledge conveyed through the objects, writings, and visual materials they contain. Decolonial authors, in particular, have pointed out how existing power structures come to manifest in archives and in the selection mechanisms they are based on.
