Intro
On the occasion of the magazine presentation of Camera Austria International no. 141, Cana Bilir-Meier and Ayşe Güleç discuss questions of alienation, memory, and critical representation in the photographic and filmic work of Bilir-Meier. The artist’s spot “Bestes Gericht” (Best Court Ever, 2017) for the Tribunal “NSU-Komplex-auflösen” is part of the program of Diagonale – Festival of Austrian Film .
Cana Bilir-Meier lives and works in Munich (DE) and Vienna (AT). She studied visual art and art education at the Akademie der Bildenen Künste in Vienna and at Sabancı University in Istanbul (TR). She works as a filmmaker and artist and in art and culture education projects. Her filmic, performative, and text-based works move at the interfaces between archival work, text production, historical research, and contemporary media reflexivity or archaeology.
Ayşe Güleç is an educator and an activist who does research at the interfaces of art, art mediation, anti-racism, and migration. From 2016 to 2017, as an employee of documenta 14, she was the community liaison in the department of the artistic director. She is active in the collective context of the Tribunal “NSU-Komplex auflösen”.
