Special Project in the framework of Vienna Art Week, presented by Camera Austria International with the kind support of Wedia – visuelle Großflächenwerbung / Beamboards

Right-wing populist politicians in Europe owe their success partly to their media presence. Christina Werner analyses recurring strategies of staging and representation, as well as gestures, facial expressions, rhetoric, and symbols. Since 2010 she has been working with material collected in this context—her own photographs and videos but also found images. Different formats of presentation reference the media environments of right-wing populist performances. For the first time, Werner is now showcasing a projection on a “beamboard” in public space that is normally used for commercial imagery, with material from “The Boys Are Back” (2015–16).
