Intro
The symposium “Curating the Archive? Strategies on the Intersection of Remembrance and Critical Engagement” is organized by the Centre for Cultural Studies at the Karl-Franzens University Graz, in collaboration with Camera Austria.
In 1992 the artist Fred Wilson asked “What is a museum anyway? Or a curator for that matter? And what is an ‘audience’? Do museums have the corner on historical ‘Truths’?”
Thirty years after Wilson’s intervention, the one-day event “Curating the Archive?” would like to take inventory by bringing together the voices of curators, practitioners, researchers, and activists to reflect on these and further questions.
The evening panel with Karen Bergman (Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York), Paz Guevara (HKW, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin), Kelly Spanou (Royal College of Art, London), and Abhijan Toto (The Forest Curriculum), moderated by Ameli M. Klein (Centre for Cultural Studies, Graz), will start at 6:30 pm in the exhibition space of Camera Austria.
