We are pleased to invite you to the presentation of Our Pocketkamera 1985 by Seiichi Furuya, which has recently been published in the Edition Camera Austria. Next to autobiographic texts by the artist, the book comprises a selection of photographs that his late wife Christine Furuya-Gössler had taken with a Kodak Pocket Instamatic camera given to her by Seiichi in 1978.

This book is the latest edition of a photobook project that Seiichi Furuya began developing in 2019, based on various documents found in the attic of his house in 2018. The previous publications, Face to Face (2020) and First Trip to Bologna 1978 / Last Trip to Venice 1985 (2022), were both published by Chose Commune, Marseille. A fourth book, By Christine 1978–1985, is already in the final stages of preparation.

Our Pocketkamera 1985 stands in the context of these books, and numerous others, that Seiichi Furuya has published in recent decades, after having emigrated from Japan to Austria fifty years ago, in the fall of 1983. The books will also be presented at Camera Austria on the same evening.
