Presentation with Urban Subjects
Sunday, June 12th, 5 pm
At this year’s edition of Miss Read, we present the latest issue of Camera Austria International (134) with contributions by Isa Genzken, Ken Okiishi, Stefanie Seibold, and Annette Frick hot off the press, alongside new books published in the Edition Camera Austria.
Together with the collective Urban Subjects (Sabine Bitter, Jeff Derksen, Helmut Weber) we will introduce two of their latest publications. Front, Field, Line, Plane: Researching the Militant Image (adocs, 2016) questions how struggles of political and social nature and also state violence are represented, mediated, and circulated through images. The Militant Image Reader (Edition Camera Austria, 2015) brings together diverse texts from theorists and artists who speculate on the relationship between artistic representation and societal change today. After a short introduction by Urban Subjects, Oliver Gemballa (adocs, Hamburg) and authors Sandra Schäfer (Berlin) and Stefan Römer (Berlin) join for a discussion on the changing qualities and effects of what a militant image is today: SUNDAY, 12 JUNE, 5 PM.
Miss Read brings together a wide selection of the most interesting artists/authors, artist periodicals and art publishers and is accompanied by a series of lectures, discussions, book launches and workshops exploring the boundaries of contemporary publishing and the possibilities of the book.
On Friday, June 10, MISS READ STAGE will focus on Publishing as Artistic Practice with panels, book presentations and lectures by Annette Gilbert, Eleanor Vonne Brown, Eva Weinmayr, Hannes Bajohr, Paul Soullelis and the Mexican collective Rrréplicameeting/encounter/clash of rebellious/disobedient/unruly publishers/editors/printers and duplicators.
