Intro

»Friedl Kubelka: Atelier d’Expression (Dakar)« stellt die neueste Arbeit der Künstlerin aus den Jahren 2015/16 vor. Die Reflexion über ihren eigenen Status und ihre Rolle als bildende Künstlerin, die mit der Entscheidung verbunden ist, das bisherige eigene fotografische Werk zunehmend den Systemen des Kunstmarktes und/oder institutionalisierten Kontexten zu entziehen, fällt zusammen mit Kubelkas Beschäftigung mit Menschen, die künstlerisch tätig sind, jedoch abseits des herrschenden (Kunst-)Establishments stehen. Diesen sog. »Outsidern« und ihrer Kunst ist die Ausstellung von Friedl Kubelka gewidmet. Sie besuchte in den vergangenen Jahren mehrfach das Atelier d’Expression in Dakar, eine psychiatrische Einrichtung im Senegal, die den Patienten unter anderem künstlerisches Arbeiten ermöglicht. Die Ausstellung zeigt fotografische Porträts der Patienten sowie einen Film über sie. Ergänzt werden Friedl Kubelkas filmische und fotografische Porträts um die bildnerischen Werke ihrer Akteure aus dem Senegal. Sie nehmen in der Ausstellung einen wesentlichen Platz ein und werden in einer von der Künstlerin initiierten A(u)ktion zugunsten der Künstler-Patienten in der psychiatrischen Einrichtung der Klinik FANN im Senegal versteigert.
